John Moore is a British artist whose work is characterised by its ingenuity, inventiveness and originality. With a diverse creative background and fuelled by curiosity John has a naturally liminal approach, setting aside convention and embracing variety, both in terms of materials and integration with other disciplines. Through collaboration with choreographers, dancers, musicians, filmmakers and scientists, as well as his own solo practice, he is on the leading edge of his creativity.
John has twice been the recipient of The Goldsmiths Company Award (2016 & 2019) affectionately known as The Jewellery Oscar. His 2019 winning entry, Lacewing, the latest in the Verto series, is made from sterling silver discs embellished with 48 diamonds. The stones are a subtle compliment to a piece characterised by sculptural form and movement, taking precious jewellery into a new space and challenging the notion of jewellery as an accessory.
The Economist - 1843 Magazine subsequently identified Lacewing as a standout piece in their annual focus on high jewellery (November 2019 issue). It was photographed for the front cover under the direction of Luxury Editor Melanie Grant. The look expanded on its futuristic aesthetic with reference to the movie Blade Runner.
In her book COVETED: Art and Innovation in High Jewellery, Grant also identifies John as “one of only 75 master jewelers globally to have changed design”. Published by Phaidon in October 2020
Collectors of John’s work include Tuan Lee, Tiqui Atencio, Solange Thierry de St Rapt, Nancy Olnick, Robert Hiller and Lady Helen Hamlyn. Other works have been acquired by public collections in the UK and the USA including The Mint Museum in Charlotte North Carolina and The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. His work has appeared at fairs and exhibitions including Masterpiece London, Design Miami, SOFA Chicago, MIART Milan, PAD Monaco and PAD London.
John is currently based in Brighton UK and represented by Elisabetta Cipriani Gallery London.
